PNW Living: A snow day well spent at home

As December rolls around we wait in anticipation for our first snow day here in the Portland Metro area. This year it came last week and we were treated to several inches of the soft and fluffy kind. Schools were closed so we woke up, poured some coffee and threw on our snow gear to enjoy it right in our front yard.

Maybe it’s her Nordic roots or just that she is a nature lover at her core but my 5 year old would spend all day in the snow if she could! She loves to catch it on her tongue, make snowballs and snow angels, take the sled out and just roll and dig as much as possible. These are the light, pure and joy filled moments of childhood that I try to soak up right alongside her and not take for granted.

It was so nice to keep it simple, slow down and just spend the day at home together. Getting these small doses of true winter snow a couple times a year are one of the wonderful things about where we live. As my daughter put it, “it was the best day ever!”

I was born in Oregon but grew up in Southern California. My family relocated back to Oregon over 5 years ago and me and my husband and daughter packed up and followed them. Now a resident of Oregon City we have spent the last 4 years making our house a home and taking advantage of all that the PNW has to offer. In this series called “PNW Living” I wanted to share our adventures and everyday life. I hope you enjoy reading!
